OMOTE GATA


 

Kasumi Dori (霞捕) “Mist Catch”

 

Both uke and tori begin in Za Gamae

 

Uke steps on to right foot and grabs tori collar with right hand. Tori comes up onto right foot and performs right ura shuto to kasumi. The reaches over and removes hand with ura gyaku while rising to his feet. The ura gyaku becomes hon gyaku, and tori performs right keri to butsumetsu, then kneels back on right knee and takes uke face down.




 

Do Gaeshi (洞返) “Body Crush”

 

Both uke and tori begin in Za Gamae.

 

Uke performs right chudan tsuki. Tori shifts to the left, stepping on left foot with knee outside uke right knee – outside uke’s tsuki and catches kote with right hand. With left hand reach across uke’s yubi and grab farthest collar from uke.

 

Take uke onto their back katate shime. Then apply pressure to uke’s right arm using knee and take them onto their stomach, continuing pressure through elbow with knee.



 

Karame Dori (搦捕) “Take Hold Capture”

 

Tori is sitting in Za Gamae. Uke is standing.

 

Uke performs migi sokuyakuken. Lean left to avoid uke’s keri to the outside, while performing a gedan uke nagashi with right hand scooping underneath uke’s ankle. Immediately perform jodan uke nagashi with left hand over the top of foot and scoop the ankle bringing it to your chest and trapping it with your arm. This will cause the uke’s body to turn away from you.

 

Immediately leap backwards to your feet, pulling the uke by their ankle causing them to fall on their stomach. With your left hand, strike the calf muscle. Sink and rotate hips counter clockwise to apply pressure to ankle.





 

Kyoto (虚倒) “False Topple”

 

Tori is in shizen, uke is in seiza.

 

Uke performs right gedan tsuki. Step onto left foot, and catches uke’s wrist with right hand. Twist hips clockwise, and cover elbow with left hand. The hand moves from elbow to shoulder, and pull uke shoulder straight down. Lock uke using o’ gyaku.



 

Katamune Dori (片胸捕) “One Handed Collar Capture”

 

Both uke and tori begin in shizentai. Uke grabs tori’s left lapel with their right hand.

 

Respond by immediately covering with left hand, while stepping forward with right foot and performing right ura shuto with right hand into uke’s left kasumi. This will cause uke’s arm to straighten. Bring your right hand over the top and secure hand as if to perform ura gyaku. As you do this, slide your left covering hand to uke’s elbow. Shift to the right so that your body is directly in front of the uke’s, and the arm of the uke is bent in 90 degrees. Perform right keri to inside the uke’s left thigh, then immediately kneel downward and back applying hon gyaku to break wrist. Finish by performing shikkou securing the uke’s right shoulder with your left knee.


 

Ryomune Dori (両胸捕) ‘Two handed Capture”

 

Uke grabs tori by both lapels.

 

Step back with right foot and use shikanken against the back of uke hands – driving the hands downward (maintain contact with left lead hand on uke right kote). Capture uke right kote with left hand and perform right tsuki into asagasumi – twisting hip keeping feet planted and driving their head back. Grab uke’s right shoulder with right hand, and drive uke into the ground using o’gyaku (not kneeling).




 

Oikake Dori (追掛捕) “Hanging Chase Capture”

 

Uke is in front of tori walking away.

 

Perform a loud kiai, causing the uke to turn and face you (the uke will turn clockwise for this technique – as if preparing to draw a sword). As they turn to face you, perform a right ura shuto into kasumi. Using same hand and circular (clockwise) motion, bring your hand around the back of the uke and scoop up underneath their right arm. Perform osoto gari/nage and land driving your knee into their chest.




 

Kaigo Kudaki (戒後砕) “Rear Guard Crush”

 

Uke reaches under arms from behind tori.

 

Sink shooting hips back, perform koho kikakuken into uke’s menbu and trap uke’s arms with elbows clasping fingers. Bring arms out and move offline to the left and perform koho fudoken into uke’s menbu with right fist. Twist hips counter-clockwise and grab uke’s left shoulder with your right hand. Kneel on your left knee and throw uke over.




 

Yuki Chigai (行違) “Line Breach/Walking Past”

 

Uke and tori pass eachother on their right.

 

Capture uke’s right kote with your right hand. Turn clockwise stepping back with right foot lifting the uke right hand (extending it), and perform either a left shukiken to butsumetsu, or a left fudoken into asagasumi. Turn counterclockwise, stepping forward with right foot and blocking the back of the uke right foot and in a large circular motion, swing uke right arm down and behind them to their rear balance point so they fall on their back.




 

Yui Gyaku (唯逆) “Simple Reverse”

 

Uke attempts to strike tori using a right ura shuto to kasumi.

 

Fall offline to the left and receive with right jodan uke and capture uke kote. Step in with left foot and perform left fudoken into asagasumi. From here, the uke will begin to lose balance and attempt to recover. Finish the uke in this moment using gyaku nage (from outside of arm).




 

Ranshou (乱勝) “Chaotic Victory”

 

Uke performs right tsuki.

 

Fall offline to your right and receive with left jodan uke – immediately capture kote with same hand. Step in with right foot trapping uke right foot and apply pressure using right forearm upwards through elbow as you pull their hand down with your left (this is called hikijime). Finish with seoinage or gyaku nage.




 

Ken Nagare (拳流) “Fist Flow”

 

Uke performs right gedan tsuki.

 

Step back with left and strike down with right fudoken on top of tsuki – immediately catch uke hand in ura gyaku. Apply hon jime, then kneel back on right foot and drive uke into the ground using ura gyaku. Finish with ude jime (barring arm).




 

Hiza Guruma (膝車) “Knee Wheel”

 

Tori is in seiza, uke is in shizen.

 

Uke performs right sokuyakuken. Step out on left foot and receive with right gedan uke. Drop to your left knee – to move forward, and capture uke right hand with your right in preparation for omote gyaku. Bring the hand over your head and grab with left hand, and continue to move forward using shikkou drive uke down with omote gyaku.



 

URA GATA


 

Ate Komi (当込) “With Timing”

 

Both uke and tori begin in Za Gamae.

 

Uke comes up onto right knee, and grabs tori’s left lapel with right hand, in preparation to tsuki with left. Come up onto left foot, covering grabbing hand with with right and perform left ura shuto into uke’s kasumi (you will be positioned outside the uke’s right arm). Perform omote gyaku w/ shikkou turning counter-clockwise.




 

Gyaku Dori (逆捕) “Reverse Capture”

 

Both uke and tori begin in Za Gamae.

 

Uke performs right tsuki. Tori leans to the right, using right hand as support, and capture’s uke’s right kote. Then, shift balance back to the left while performing right Goshiken into uke menbu. Using right leg, sweep backwards behind uke’s right leg to knock them onto their back.




 

Menbu (面部) “Face”

 

Both uke and tori begin in Za Gamae.

 

Uke performs right gedan tsuki (towards stomach). Tori steps with left foot – rising to feet – and performs gedan uke – then immediately catches uke’s right kote with right hand. In this same moment, perform left ura shuto into menbu of uke. Bring left hand down to uke’s right elbow, and turn clockwise applying downward pressure to drive uke face down into the ground.




 

Gyaku Dori (逆捕) “Reverse Capture”

 

Both uke and tori begin in Za Gamae.

 

Uke comes up onto right knee, and grabs tori’s left lapel with right hand, in preparation to tsuki with left. Come up onto right foot covering grab with left hand and perform right ura shuto into uke menbu. Take hand with right into ura gyaku, kneeling through uke’s right arm with right knee.



 

Ryō Ashi Dori (両足捕) “Two Leg Catch”

 

Tori is sitting in Za Gamae. Uke is standing.

 

Uke performs migi sokuyakuken. Lean left to avoid uke’s keri to the outside, while performing a gedan uke nagashi with right hand scooping underneath uke’s ankle. Immediately perform jodan uke nagashi with left hand over the top of foot and scoop the ankle bringing it to your chest and trapping it with your arm. This will cause the uke’s body to turn away from you.

 

Immediately leap backwards to your feet, pulling the uke by their ankle causing them to fall on their stomach. With your left hand, strike the calf muscle. Sink and rotate hips counter clockwise to apply pressure to ankle.

 

Cross uke ankles, and your slide right leg across the back of the knees to apply pressure through your shin. Your positioning should be that each of uke’s feet at at each hip. Grab shoulder and pull your body forward to apply pressure.




 

Menbu (面部) “Face”

 

Tori begin in Za Gamae, uke is in shizen.

 

Uke performs right sokuyakuken. Tori leans to the left and performs right gedan uke – capturing the leg. Uke performs right tsuki. Perform left jodan uke, capturing uke’s wrist immediately afterwards. Pass uke’s right kote underneath uke’s right leg to your right hand. Rise to feet and perform right tsuki (with leg and wrist captured) into uke’s menbu.




 

Ke Komi (蹴込) “Kick Included”

 

Both uke and tori begin in Hidari Seigan no Kamae.

 

Uke performs jodan oitsuki. Fall offline to left and perform jodan uke with right hand. Capture uke’s right wrist with your right hand, and bring it down and forward towards your right hip. As you do this, perform right zenpo keri into uke’s right butsumetsu. As your foot descends rotate yourself clockwise, bringing your left hand to uke’s right elbow, barring the uke’s arm and driving them into the ground.




 

Kata Mune Dori (片胸捕) “Single Collar Capture”

 

Both uke and tori begin in shizentai. Uke grabs tori’s right lapel with their left hand.

 

Respond by immediately covering with right hand, while stepping forward with right foot and performing left ura shuto with right hand into uke’s left kasumi. This will cause uke’s arm to straighten. Bring your left hand over the top and secure hand as if to perform ura gyaku. As you do this, slide your right covering hand to uke’s elbow. Perform left keri into uke stomach, and kneel back on same knee as you drive uke into the ground with ura gyaku.




 

Ryōmune Dori (両胸捕) “Two Collar Capture”

 

Uke grabs tori by both lapels.

 

Step back with right foot and use shikanken against the back of uke hands – driving the hands downward (maintain contact with left lead hand on uke right kote). Capture uke right kote with left hand and perform right Goshiken into uke menbu – twisting hip keeping feet planted and driving their head back. Step back in with right foot taking uke right hand into omote gyaku while maintain Goshiken to face, turn clockwise and nage.




 

Ryō Ashi Dori (両足捕) “Two Leg Capture”

 

Tori is following uke from behind.

 

Go down to your left knee, and take uke’s legs with the left arm in front and right arm at the rear. Immediately leap backwards to your feet, pulling the uke by their ankle causing them to fall on their stomach. With your left hand, strike the calf muscle. Sink and rotate hips counter clockwise to apply pressure to ankle. Cross uke ankles, and your slide right leg across the back of the knees to apply pressure through your shin. Your positioning should be that each of uke’s feet at at each hip. Grab shoulder and pull your body forward to apply pressure.



 

Tengu Dori (天狗捕) “Tengu Capture”

 

Tori is following uke from behind.

 

Tori creeps up on uke and performs happaken into both uke’s yabba, then perform a downward tsuki onto the small of back.



 

Kaigo Kudaki (戒後砕) “Guard Break”

 

Uke reaches under arms from behind tori.

 

Sink shooting hips back, perform koho kikakuken into uke’s menbu and trap uke’s arms with elbows clasping fingers. Bring arms out and move offline to the left and perform koho fudoken into uke’s menbu with right fist. Swing arm up underneath uke’s arm and perform ganseki nage.


 

Hiki Taoshi (引倒) “Leading Fall”

 

Uke and tori pass eachother on their right.

 

Capture uke’s right kote with your right hand. Turn clockwise stepping back with right foot lifting the uke right hand (extending it), and perform either a left shukiken to butsumetsu, or a left fudoken into asagasumi. Perform seoinage/gyaku nage turning clockwise.



 

Tsuki Taoshi (突倒) “Thrusting Fall”

 

Both uke and tori begin in seigan no kamae.

 

Uke performs right tsuki. Move offline and perform left uke nagashi, immediately answering with a right Goshiken into uke’s menbu, thrusting them backwards.




 

Ude Ori (腕折) “Arm Break”

 

Both uke and tori begin in seigan no kamae.

 

Uke performs a right jodan tsuki. Fall offline to the left and perform right uke nagashi – immediately catch uke’s right kote. Step in with left foot and reach left arm over uke’s right arm and grab your right kote. Drop to your left knee to break arm driving uke straight down into the ground.



 

Hiki Komi (引込) “Lead Included”

 

Both uke and tori begin in seigan no kamae.

 

Uke performs right tsuki. Fall offline to the left, and perform right jodan uke nagashi – immediately capture uke’s right kote with left hand. Continue to rotate clockwise to bar arm and nage uke.



 

Nagashi (流し) “Flow”

 

Both uke and tori begin in seigan no kamae.

 

Uke performs right tsuki. Fall offline to the left, and perform right jodan uke nagashi – immediately capture uke’s right kote with right hand. Step in with left foot (behind uke’s right foot) and perform left Goshiken into uke’s right elbow – hyperextending the arm. Step back with right foot and rotate hips clockwise to nage uke into the ground.



 

Ke Komi (蹴込) “Kick Included”

 

Both uke and tori begin in seigan no kamae.

 

Uke performs a right jodan tsuki. Fall offline to the right and perform left uke nagashi – immediately catch uke’s right kote, bringing the hand downward to your hip. In this moment, perform left sokugyakuken into uke’s yubi, then immediately kneel back on left knee dragging the uke to the ground.




 

Ude Ori (腕折) “Arm Break”

 

Both uke and tori begin in seigan no kamae.

 

Uke performs a right jodan tsuki. Fall offline to the right and perform left uke nagashi – immediately catch uke’s right kote. Perform right Goshiken into uke menbu – twisting hips. Reach your right arm over uke’s right arm and grab your own left kote – locking arm. Perform osoto nage with right foot.




 

Eri Jime (襟締) “Collar Choke”

 

Both uke and tori begin in seigan no kamae.

 

Uke performs right tsuki. Fall offline to the left, and perform right jodan uke nagashi – immediately capture uke’s right kote with right hand. Step in with left foot (behind uke’s right foot) and perform left Goshiken into uke’s right elbow – hyperextending the arm. Step back with right foot and rotate hips clockwise to nage uke into the ground.

 

Kneel on uke’s right arm with right knee and uke’s spine with left knee. Reach left hand underneath uke’s yubi and grab uke’s left collar. Pull on collar and apply pressure with left forearm to choke.
