WAR/Shinden Fudo Ryu Densho 


 

Nichi Geki (日撃) “Solar Strike”

 

Uke grabs tori in kumiuchi.

 

Lightly cover uke’s right wrist with your left hand positioned underneath. Uke turns hips clockwise and attempts to grab hips in preparation to throw. Step back with right foot and turn hips counter-clockwise as you stop uke’s hips with your left hand, while pulling back with your right hand to escape the uke’s left hand grip on your sleeve. The uke’s right arm should be trapped between your hip and arm with pressure on the elbow.

 

The uke reponds by turning back towards you counter-clockwise. Strike uke’s menbu with shakoken, driving their head backward. Step behind uke, maintaining pressure on their face and hips, and perform osoto gake keeping the uke’s right arm as they fall. When the uke lands, the arm should be in position for musha dori. Lock arm, kneel on your left and step over with right foot and trap uke. Straighten your back, and rotate counter-clockwise to break arm.

Ura Gata Ichi (裏型一) “Inner Form One”

 

Uke grabs tori in kumiuchi.

 

Lightly cover uke’s right wrist with your left hand positioned underneath. Uke turns hips clockwise and attempts to grab hips in preparation to throw. Step back with right foot and turn hips counter-clockwise as you stop uke’s hips with your left hand, while pulling back with your right hand to escape the uke’s left hand grip on your sleeve. The uke’s right arm should be trapped between your hip and arm with pressure on the elbow.

 

The uke reponds by turning back towards you counter-clockwise. Strike uke’s menbu with shakoken – the uke will respond by avoiding this by stepping 90 degrees with their left foot or with a jodan uke. Immediately respond by striking uke’s pectoral with a right shakoken upwards, driving your thumb into their armpit. Take the uke’s right hand with your left hand into omote gyaku. Kneel back on your left knee pulling the skin with your right hand and nage uke backwards.

Ura Gata Ni (裏型二) “Inner Form Two”

 

Uke grabs tori in kumiuchi.

Uke performs right tsuki.

 

Fall offline 45 degrees to right and perform jodan uke with left hand – catch uke’s left kote. Perform right ura shuto into uke’s right uko – then immediately grab uke’s right shoulder. Perform right sokugyakuken into uke’s gorin/suzu. Finish by kneeling with right foot as you apply o’gyaku driving uke into the ground.

Ura Gata Ichi (裏型一) “Inner Form One”

 

Uke performs right tsuki.

 

Fall offline 45 degrees to right and perform jodan uke with left hand – catch uke’s left kote. Perform right ura shuto into uke’s right uko – then place your right elbow over ukes right elbow. Step behind uke right leg with your right and perform osoto gake dropping hips and applying pressure through ukes arm.

Ura Gata Ni (裏型二) “Inner Form Two”

 

Uke performs right tsuki.

 

Fall offline 45 degrees to right and perform jodan uke with left hand – catch uke’s left kote. Perform right fudoken into uke suigetsu, and then grab the uke right arm from underneath. Rotate counter clockwise and perform ippon seoinage.



 

Fubi (風靡) “Extravagant Wind”

 

Uke attempts to apply hon jime.

 

Grab uke by the trapezius muscle. Immediately perform tobi and wrap your legs around uke’s waist – squeeze to apply pressure on both sides to butsumetsu. Strike uke menbu with bottom of fist. As uke releases his grip, lower the body and grab the ukes ankles, and use your hips to drop the uke down to floor and perform koho kaiten away from uke.

Uke attempts to apply hon jime.

 

Grab uke by the trapezius muscle. Immediately perform tobi and wrap your legs around uke’s waist – squeeze to apply pressure on both sides to butsumetsu. Strike uke menbu with bottom of fist. As uke let’s go, drop down to the floor and perform koho kaiten away.

Ura Gata Ni (裏型二) “Inner Form Two”

 

Uke attempts to apply hon jime.

 

Grab uke by the trapezius muscle. Immediately perform tobi and wrap your legs around uke’s waist – squeeze to apply pressure on both sides to butsumetsu. Grab the lapels and strike uke menbu with head butt. As uke releases his grip, drop down to floor and perform koho kaiten away from uke.



 

Uryu (雨龍) “Rain Dragon”

 

Uke reaches in to grab the uke’s waist from behind tori.

 

Sink your hips while bringing your hands down to prevent uke from locking in grab. Take the uke’s right hand with your right – turn it inwards as if to apply ura gyaku, creating a space under uke’s right arm. Step backwards underneath arm and secure uke’s right elbow with your left hand in a take ori like fashion. Kneel down on left knee and throw/flip uke forwards using their locked arm by applying forward/downward pressure on the uke’s elbow and backwards/upwards pressure on the right hand.

Ura Gata Ni (裏型二) “Inner Form Two”

 

Uke reaches in to grab the uke’s waist from behind tori.

 

Sink your hips while bringing your hands down to prevent uke from locking in grab. Take the uke’s right hand with your right – turn it inwards as if to apply ura gyaku, creating a space under uke’s right arm. Perform a left shukiken into uke suigetsu. Rather than slipping under the right arm, rotate hips clockwise to grab with left arm and perform seoinage with right shoulder.



 

Hibari (雲雀) “Skylark”

 

Uke performs right tsuki.

 

Dodge the punch by kneeling on the right knee (preferably landing your knee on toki of uke’s right foot). As you rise perform tsuki into uke’s face with your right hand. Continue the motion and grab using shakoken the meat/tendons under uke’s left armpit. Step back with your left foot and twist hips clockwise to nage uke with right hand’s grip.

Uke performs right tsuki.

 

Dodge the punch by kneeling on the right knee (preferably landing your knee on toki of uke’s right foot). As you rise perform tsuki into uke’s face with your right hand. Using left arm lock uke’s right arm for ganseki nage. Grab using right shakoken the meat/tendons under uke’s left armpit. Rotate clockwise stepping back with right foot and throw uke into the ground using Ganseki otoshi.


 

Setsuyaku (雪耀) “Snow Sparkle”

 

Uke performs right jodan tsuki.

 

Uke nagashi inside of right tsuki by stepping back 45 degrees on your right foot and using your left hand. Immediately catch uke’s right wrist with your left hand, with your palm on the back of their hand. Turn the hand down and out to apply ura gyaku. Step in with your right foot and strike upwards underneath uke’s arm to the back of their shoulder to bring their balance forward. Grab shoulder, and step back on your left foot. Sink turning your hips counter-clockwise and throwing the uke over your right shoulder with seoinage.

Ura Gata Ni (裏型二) “Inner Form Two”

 

Uke performs right jodan tsuki.

 

Uke nagashi inside of right tsuki by stepping back 45 degrees on your right foot and using your left hand. Immediately catch uke’s right wrist with your left hand, with your palm on the back of their hand. Turn the hand down and out to apply ura gyaku. Step in with your right foot and lock the arm by reaching over with right hand. Perform osoto gake to break the arm as the opponent falls.



 

Musan (霧散) “Dispersing Fog”

 

Uke performs gedan tsuki, punching at tori’s gorin.

 

Twist and sink hips counter-clockwise, catching uke’s right kote with your left hand and

simultaneously perform right fudoken into uke’s menbu, taking their balance rearward. While holding uke’s left wrist, step in with right foot sinking below uke’s right arm and perform right shukiken into uke’s right wakitsubo, shifting the uke’s hips rearward. Continue rotation by stepping back with left foot and extend uke’s right arm – you should be standing perpendicular to uke. Turn uke’s wrist so that the elbow is facing upwards, and perform right shuto down through uke’s elbow breaking the arm.

Uke performs gedan tsuki, punching at tori’s gorin.

simultaneously perform right fudoken into uke’s menbu, taking their balance rearward. Karai (霞雷) “Mist thunder/lightning”

 

Uke performs a right tsuki.

 

Step back with left foot and draw punch out with left hand – simultaneously performing right fudoken into uke’s right butsumetsu. Grab uke’s right shoulder with right hand and perform take ori to uke’s right hand with your left hand. Step back with right foot and perform o’gyaku driving uke’s head into the ground.

Uke performs a right tsuki.

Take the take ori behind their back with your left hand, and with your right arm perform shime on uke.



 

Riken (理拳) “Reason Fist”

 

Uke is in seiza, tori is in hidari fudoza.

 

Uke grabs tori’s left lapel with their right hand. Reach over with right hand and apply ura gyaku. Perform left sokuykuken into uke’s shinchu leaning slightly back. Control by baring uke’s arm with left knee. Switch in wakigatame baring arm.

Shinken (心拳) “Heart Fist”

 

Uke is in seiza, tori is in migi fudoza.

 

Uke grabs tori’s left lapel with their right hand. Cover with left hand. Strike upwards through uke’s left arm using right shuto. Immediately perform right sokuyakuken into uke’s shinchu. Perform koho kaiten ukemi.

Uke performs right keri. Immediately lean back and to the right, using right hand as support, and perform left gedan uke – immediately catch uke’s leg. Perform right sokugyakuken into uke’s suzu.

Uke is in shizen, tori is in migi fudoza.

 

Uke grabs your right lapel with their left hand. Cover uke’s hand gently and begin to apply omote gyaku. Uke attempts to tsuki with kodachi with right hand; stop tsuki by performing a right sokuyakuken into uke’s shinchu. Stand up and finish applying omotegyaku. Use right leg to stomp wakitsubo.

Issen (一閃) “One Flash”

 

Uke is in shizen, tori is in migi fudoza.

 

Uke performs right sokuyakuken. Immediately lean back and to the right, using right hand as support, and perform left gedan uke. Uke immediately draws to perform kara take wari with kodachi. Move to your left to avoid kiri, and catch uke’s right kote with your right hand. Perform kagiken into inside of uke’s right ankle while pulling down on right hand to drop uke to the ground. Roll to your right to control the ukes arm with your left knee.

Move to your left to avoid kiri, and catch uke’s right kote with your right hand. Perform sokugyakuken into inside of uke’s groin while pulling down on right hand to drop uke to the ground. Roll to your right to control the ukes arm with your left knee.



 

Akuken (把拳) “Bridge Fist”

 

Uke is in daijodan, tori is in migi fudoza.

 

Uke begins to perform kesa giri – immediately perform koho kaiten ukemi while striking uke’s hands with a right sokuyakuken. Continue into koho kaiten ukemi.

Kenkon (乾坤) “Heaven Earth”

 

Uke is in daijodan behind tori, tori is in migi fudoza facing away from uke.

 

Uke performs kara take wari. Lean to the left, rotating body counterclockwise and bring your right knee up so that your leg is parallel to the cut. Catch uke’s kote with your right hand, pull forward and trap against the top of your right thigh. Lift the kote with both hands and move under the arm, applying ura gyaku onto the uke’s right wrist and driving them face first into the ground. Disarm.

Uke is in seigan, tori is in migi fudoza.

 

Uke performs right jodan tsuki. Immediately lean back and to the right, using right hand as support, and catch uke’s tsuki at their wrist with your left hand. Shift and grab the right elbow with your right hand. Perform right sokuyakuken into suigetsu and knock the uke onto their back. Control the arm and break.

Tai Nagashi (体流) “Body Flow”

 

Uke grabs left lapel with right hand and performs left tsuki.

 

Cover hand and sink hips. Turn hips clockwise to receive tsuki with jodan uke. Immediately shift weight forward turning hips counter-clockwise and grab uke’s tendon near armpit. Drop down and perform yoko nage by turning counter-clockwise, driving uke’s head into the ground.

Ura Gata Ni (裏型二) “Inner Form Two”

 

Uke grabs left lapel with right hand and performs left tsuki.

 

Cover hand and sink hips. Turn hips clockwise to receive tsuki with jodan uke. Immediately shift weight forward turning hips counter-clockwise and grab uke’s tendon near armpit. Remove the uke’s right hand with your left hand in a manner similar to ura gyaku. Drop down and perform yoko nage by turning clockwise, driving uke’s head into the ground.



 

Ken Nagashi (拳流) “Fist Flow”

 

Uke grabs right lapel with their left hand, and performs a right tsuki.

 

Step slightly back with left foot and cover uke’s left hand with your right hand and left hand just below. As the uke performs the right tsuki, turn hips counterclockwise and receive with a left jodan uke. Reach over and grab uke’s left hand with your left hand as if to perform ura gyaku. Move as if to perform right shukiken into jaw stepping in front of uke with right foot and prepare to throw using koshi nage. The uke will resist. Step back kneeling on right pulling uke down with your right hand on uke’s left elbow to drop them onto their back in a manner similar to hon gyaku. Immediately stand and stomp head.

Uke grabs right lapel with their left hand, and performs a right tsuki.

 

Step slightly back with left foot and cover uke’s left hand with your right hand and left hand just below. As the uke performs the right tsuki, turn hips counterclockwise and receive with a left jodan uke. Reach over and grab uke’s left hand with your left hand as if to perform ura gyaku. Move as if to perform right shukiken into jaw stepping in front of uke with right foot and throw using koshi nage.

Uke grabs right lapel with their left hand, and performs a right tsuki.

 

Step slightly back with left foot and cover uke’s left hand with your right hand and left hand just below. As the uke performs the right tsuki, turn hips counterclockwise and receive with a left jodan uke. Reach over and grab uke’s left hand with your left hand as if to perform ura gyaku. Move as if to perform right shukiken into jaw stepping in front of uke with right foot. Sweep the uke’s left leg with your right to nage.



 

Fubatsu (不抜) “Invisible”

 

Uke grabs tori right lapel with left hand and performs right tsuki.

 

Cover with left hand over uke’s left hand while grabbing behind uke’s collar with right hand. Step back with left foot (do not allow torso to move) in preparation. As uke performs tsuki, twist hips counterclockwise while receiving with left jodan uke, taking uke off balance. Take uke’s left grabbing hand with your left as if to perform ura gyaku. Perform right sokugyakuken into uke’s suigetsu. Without planting foot, kneel back on right and throw uke onto their back.

Cover with left hand over uke’s left hand while grabbing behind uke’s collar with right hand. Step back with left foot (do not allow torso to move) in preparation. As uke performs tsuki, twist hips counterclockwise while receiving with left jodan uke, taking uke off balance. Take uke’s left grabbing hand with your left as if to perform ura gyaku.Turn counter clockwise applying the ura gyaku, and kneel forward through the arm to nage the uke.

Cover with left hand over uke’s left hand while grabbing behind uke’s collar with right hand. Step back with left foot (do not allow torso to move) in preparation. As uke performs tsuki, twist hips counterclockwise while receiving with left jodan uke, taking uke off balance. Take uke’s left grabbing hand with your left as if to perform ura gyaku. Strike uke with a right shukiken into shinchu. Take the uke’s elbow and kneel back creating hon gyaku on the uke’s left arm.



 

Ryôte Gake (両手掛) “Two Hand Hook”

 

Uke attempts to perform hon jime.

 

Step back with left, turning hips counterclockwise and tuck chin to prevent choke. Grab the uke’s elbows driving your thumbs into hoshi. Lift the elbows up in an attempt to release choke. The Uke will resist by dropping his hips and attempt to bring his elbows back in. Using the uke’s momentum, step in front of the uke using your right foot turning counterclockwise, and throw uke using koshinage.

Uke attempts to perform hon jime.

 

Step back with left, turning hips counterclockwise and tuck chin to prevent choke. Grab the uke’s elbows driving your thumbs into hoshi. Lift the elbows up in an attempt to release choke. Simultaneously, perform right sokugyakuken into the uke’s groin. Using the uke’s momentum, step in front of the uke using your right foot turning counterclockwise, and throw uke using koshinage.

Uke attempts to perform hon jime.

 

Step back with left, turning hips counterclockwise and tuck chin to prevent choke. Strike and then grab the uke’s ears and thrust downward to drop the uke’s hips from the pain. Step in front of the uke using your right foot turning counterclockwise, and throw uke using koshinage.



 

Kasasagi (鵲) “Magpie”

 

Uke attempts to perform hon jime.

 

Cover uke’s right hand (hand on top) with your right hand, and cover uke’s right elbow with your left hand. Step back with right and turn hips clockwise to release pressure from choke while taking their balance. Turn hips counterclockwise and perform right sokugyakuken into uke’s suigetsu. Descend and throw uke using tomoe nage.

Continue rotation and descend and throw uke yoko nage to your right.

Uke attempts to perform hon jime.

 

Cover uke’s right hand (hand on top) with your right hand, and cover uke’s right elbow with your left hand. Step back with right and turn hips clockwise to release pressure from choke while taking their balance. Turn hips counterclockwise and perform right sokugyakuken into uke’s suigetsu. Descend down on the uke’s right side and throw uke yoko nage to your left.


 

Suzu Otoshi (鈴落) “Bell Drop”

 

Uke grabs lapel with left hand and performs a right tsuki.

 

Cover uke’s left elbow gently with your right hand as you sink your hips. Perform left jodan uke – immediately reach over with left hand and roll uke’s left grabbing hand into an ura gyaku and trap it against your chest.

 

Kneel back on left knee as you apply pressure down through elbow, taking the uke’s hand in ura gyaku so that they fall onto their stomach.

Ura Gata Ichi (裏型一) “Inner Form One”

 

Uke grabs lapel with left hand and performs a right tsuki.

 

Cover uke’s left elbow gently with your right hand as you sink your hips. Perform left jodan uke – immediately reach over with left hand and roll uke’s left grabbing hand into an ura gyaku and trap it against your chest.

 

Kick the groin with your left foot and immediately kneel back on left knee as you apply pressure down through elbow, taking the uke’s hand in ura gyaku so that they fall onto their stomach.

Uke grabs lapel with left hand and performs a right tsuki.

 

Cover uke’s left elbow gently with your right hand as you sink your hips. Perform left jodan uke – immediately strike uke in either men or suigetsu with your left hand. Reach over with left hand and roll uke’s left grabbing hand into an ura gyaku and trap it against your chest.

 

Kneel back on left knee as you apply pressure down through elbow, taking the uke’s hand in ura gyaku so that they fall onto their stomach.


 

Kasumi Otoshi (霞落) “Mist Drop”

 

Uke grabs right lapel with left hand and performs right tsuki.

 

Cover uke’s left hand with your right. As the uke performs the tsuki – in one explosive movement, simultaneously step back with left foot turning hips counter clockwise, remove uke’s grabbing hand extending it from your body as you receive with a left jodan uke. Take uke’s left hand with both hands, kneel back with right and perform omote gyaku. Stand and stomp uke head.

Uke grabs right lapel with left hand and performs right tsuki.

 

Cover uke’s left hand with your right. As the uke performs the tsuki – in one explosive movement, simultaneously step back with left foot turning hips counter clockwise, remove uke’s grabbing hand extending it from your body as you receive with a left jodan uke. Step in with left and perform right ura shuto to uke kasumi. Take uke’s left hand with both hands, kneel back with right and perform omote gyaku. Stand and stomp uke head.

Uke grabs with right hand and performs a left tsuki.

 

Cover uke’s right hand with your left hand beneath and your right hand above. Receive uke’s tsuki by sinking and turning your hips counterclockwise and using you right elbow to deflect. Take uke’s left hand into ura gyaku with your right, and grab sleeve under uke’s right shoulder with your left. Kneel back on your right knee throwing uke past you onto their stomach pushing with your left as you apply ura gyaku with your right hand.

Take uke’s left hand into ura gyaku with your right, and tsuki the uke’s face with your left. Kneel back on your right knee throwing uke past you onto their stomach as you apply ura gyaku with your right hand.

Perform a right sokugyakuken to uke’s groin and immediately kneel back on your right knee throwing uke past you onto their stomach pushing with your left as you apply ura gyaku with your right hand.


 

Fudo (鶉刈) “Immovable”

 

Uke grabs tori right lapel with left hand.

 

Cover hand gently and begin to sink hips. Uke performs a right tsuki. Shift 45 degrees inside and perform jodan uke with left hand – immediately grab uke’s left shoulder. Using right hand, remove uke’s left hand using take ori while stepping back with left perpendicular to uke.. Kneel back on your right to drop the uke backwards and break their arm.

Cover hand gently and begin to sink hips. Uke performs a right tsuki. Shift 45 degrees inside and perform jodan uke with left hand – immediately grab uke’s left shoulder. Using right hand, remove uke’s left hand using take ori while stepping back with left perpendicular to uke. Perform right sokugyakuken into uke’s groin, driving their hips back and bending forward. Their left arm will become straight; drops your hips driving pressure through their wrist and arm similar to o’gyaku, driving them head first into the ground.



 

Ugari (鶉刈) “Quail Cut”

 

Uke grabs tori in kumiuchi.

 

Uke attempts to throw with osoto gake. Move with the throw dropping on the right side of the uke and throw with yoko nage. Finish by rolling onto uke’s chest and performing katate jime.

Uke grabs tori in kumiuchi.

 

Uke attempts to throw with osoto gake. As the uke comes in for the osoto gake move your left hand from sleeve to under the arm. Grab the flesh with a shakoken, driving the thumb into wakistubo. Move with the throw dropping on the right side of the uke and throw with yoko nage. Finish by rolling onto uke’s chest and performing katate jime.


 

Fukan (不諱) “Without Concealing”

 

Uke attempts to throw tori using morote seoinage.

 

Immediately step slightly right and drop your hips to prevent throw. At the same time, bring your right hand down forcefully to break the hold. In rapid succession, perform a tsuki to uke’s face with right hand, and tsuki butsumetsu with left – this will bring uke onto their toes. Grab a hold of uke, and perform yoko nage. Finish by rolling onto uke a performing ura shuto.

In rapid succession, perform a tsuki to uke’s left hoshi/jakkin upwards to break the arm with right hand, and tsuki butsumetsu with left – this will bring uke onto their toes. Grab a hold of uke, and perform yoko nage. Finish by rolling onto uke a performing ura shuto.



 

Shizen (自然) “Natural”

 

Uke grabs both tori’s lapels with both hands.

 

As the uke pulls you in, step in with your right foot while sinking your hips. Using the crown of your head, perform a kikakuken into uke’s menbu. Step with your left foot forward offline and take his jaw with your right hand. Step behind his right leg with your right leg and execute osoto gake.

Uke grabs both tori’s lapels with both hands.

 

The uke will push. Move with them, take their hands and kick into the groin. In the available moment, perform tomoe nage.
